About – Meet Matt

About Harvest and Wild’s Community Table – Meet Matt!

Hi, I’m Matt and thanks for stopping in! I’m a husband and dad to two overly energetic sons. A proud Nova Scotia native, I’m an avid cook and picture taker thanks to the influence of my parents and grandparents who exposed me early on to all kinds of foods and cultures.

Harvest and Wild’s Community Table is where we share some of our favourite the recipes. For years I have worked as a teacher, and like many teachers, I get horrified by the food I hear my students eat. Not just for lunches but at home. My mission is to have more people to make use of their kitchens and try new food, and to share that food with friends and family. Nothing is better than talking with others while sharing good food. Harvest and Wild’s Community Tables’ job is to help inspire you to do just that, with quick and fresh meals, all paired with music and entertainment ideas.

If you are looking for fun and fresh meal ideas, check out the recipe archive. If you want some cool ideas for feeding a crown, check out our full-on menus to make entertaining easy and exciting.

Definition of a Bluenoser: ‘A native or inhabitant of Nova Scotia. Prone to kitchen parties with music, talking, food and drinks’.

What’s with the name Community Table?

Originally this site was called Total Feasts, however now that it is part of Harvest and Wild we wanted it to fully embrace Harvest and Wild’s mission to build community through sharing good food. So we’ve rebranded our recipe site to be part of Harvest and Wild’s Community Table – join us!

A bit more about Matt

The main cook in the household, Harvest and Wild is his little side project that grew.

He also has an addiction to wine gums. It’s deep and it’s real.

A Little History.

2013 I started writing down food I was cooking.

2014 I started to actually think about the pictures of the food I was taking. Luckily they have been improving.

2015 I nearly gave it all up for a new, rather stressful, job.

2017 we decided to take all our carefully laid financial planning and throw it out the window. We adopted our two kids. The house hasn’t recovered yet, and I have much more grey hair.

2018 Gave up the stressful job so I could actually do the school run. Decided, as I now had the time, I might as well try my hand at photography/cooking/menu planning again.

2019 Started Total Feasts to put this photography, cooking and menu planning to good use!

2020 Moved the family back to Canada and started Harvest and Wild

2021 Brought Total Feasts into the Harvest and Wild family, and joined as part of our Community Table.

Welcome!

I’m a husband, dad, bluenosers and an avid cook and picture taker. I think food is meant to be shared, and good food brings people together.
